⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Leo / Glen Baskerville
Age: 16
Canon: Pandora Hearts
Canon Point: Chapter 65, after Jack had taken control of Oz and used his power to stab Leo through the chest, causing him to lose consciousness.

Background: via the Pandora Hearts Wikia.

Personality:

Upon first inspection, Leo might seem like a subdued sort of individual. He's outgoing, well-mannered, and honest. More often than not, he appears to be in a good mood, addressing others kindly and speaking in flowery tones. In the right company, he might be just that, if not for a bit quirky; however, those who are more familiar with him know far better than to think such things.

Social activity is hardly a predilection of his, and is handled much more like an obligation than it is for enjoyment purposes; he'd much rather prefer the company of a good book. Reading allows him to forget himself, taking him away to other worlds or leaving him buzzing with new information - a welcome escape from a burdened life, heavy with self-loathing and things he cannot hope to understand. Communication outside of the few that he holds dear is made mostly by necessity, such as when he needed to apologize for his master's shortcomings, or on his behalf in some sense.

When he does speak, regardless of to whom, it is honest... but often so much so, that it's awkward and painfully to the point. Pleasant demeanor and smiles could only do so much to pad what he says, however, be it intentional or not. It's a flaw that he's particularly unaware of, as when he does mean to be insulting, it's incredibly and blatantly caustic - although, still delivered with a smile. Unless he is genuinely upset, that is.

In the event that he should become unsettled, it often results in a violent outburst. If a person that he isn't familiar with attempts to touch him, he might lash out and resume some space between them, for example; however, there have been far more extreme circumstances in which he has become violent when pushed too far, including nearly killing a man - and he would have, too, had he not been stopped. He is the sort that does things at his own pace, and dislikes to move beyond his area of comfort.

One of his most sensitive points was being forced to see the world around him. Ever since he could remember, he could see golden lights everywhere about him that no one else could. It is questionable whether his mother did it to protect Leo, or to prevent unwanted attention, but she had him grow out his hair to cover his face. It became his veil of protection, something that he needed to hide behind. He heard voices in his head, but with time, he learned how to block them out until they faded away. The world as he knew it had been entirely confusing, and he often times thought himself to be mad. Certainly, he was aware that he was different from everyone else, though he felt it to be so in the worst possible way.

The power of the Abyss within him distorted the reality around him, creating misfortune in his wake. At a very young age, he lost his father to an unfortunate accident - and at twelve, his mother was consumed by a chain, leaving him orphaned. Elliot was fatally attacked by a chain attempting to protect him, and in deciding to save the other boy by contracting him to said chain, doomed him to a life plagued by murder at his own hands, and ultimately, death. Not only did he fault himself for always being 'the weird one', but also for his existence causing misery to the person he cared for most.

Elliot was his most precious person, indeed. He holds the young man in very high esteem, and would have done anything within his power to ensure his safety, going as far as requesting that Oz kill him (Leo) if he should lose himself to madness and become a threat. It was through peculiar circumstances that he and Elliot became friends, but their starkly contrasting personalities allowed them to balance one another out in such a way that they bonded dearly. The other boy's quick temper and outbursts caused Leo to become more level-headed in turn, and through his faults, he was able to observe and improve his own. He learned how to interact with children and express affection, notably, and improve communication with others. Unfortunately, he failed to pick up on any of the talents with weaponry that Elliot possesses, nor any of his fantastic perception; Leo's positively useless with swords and guns, despite carrying them for the purpose of serving as a bodyguard, and he's rather clueless to his surroundings. They still make a good team, in any case, as Leo's cleverness and utter lack of apprehension allows him to follow Elliot into trouble without hesitation.

The tragedy that resulted in Elliot's death lead on to shine light on many aspects of Leo's previously confusing life. While he no longer felt that he was mad in the sense of seeing and hearing things that didn't exist (which he now knows to be the lights of the abyss, and the voices of Glen), his instability worsened, leading him to become far more prone to displaying manic-like symptoms. Unable to cope with the stress of losing the most important person to him, he dissolved into and uncontrollable state of screaming over his corpse. Likewise, he was unable to be pressed too far, concerning the details of the situation surrounding the death afterward, without dissolving into similar fits.

The fault he took upon himself was traumatic in itself, but he's ultimately lost the foundation that kept him together. It seems that his personality has regressed to its past state before meeting Elliot, if not worsened, ever since. An excellent example would be that he vehemently objects to physical contact, as he once did before, or how he has been shown to regard some with an outwardly abrasive and verbally abusive manner. Though, now, it may not simply reflect his displeasure with the world, but his own self as well.

Since, he has accepted his fate as the next vassal of Glen Baskerville, in an effort to give himself new purpose - but, in truth, he has only become more unpredictable, and enabled himself to become more out of control and destructive. His actions are so reckless, Oz has stated that he is not trying to eradicate those around him, but rather, himself.

Abilities: Leo is contracted to Jabberwock, a powerful creature known as a Chain, born from the otherworldly Abyss. To form a legal contract with a chain is a difficult and often extensive process that first begins with gaining its acceptance, and once that is achieved, reciting an oath and drinking its blood. This is the typical process for those of the Baskerville house; however, this is also known as 'illegal contracting', as it it extremely caustic to the bodies of anyone else that undergoes it - and, in fact, inevitably leads to their demise.

In contrast to a 'legal contractor' that accepts the chain's seal onto a Carcere (blood seal mirror), they accept the seals directly onto their bodies. Said seal contains a hand that rotates around like that of a clock, and once it has completed, triggers a reaction that causes the contractor being dragged down into the Abyss. Additionally, the weight of the chain's powers can cause a body to significantly wear down over time. A Baskerville need not worry about such matters, though, as their seals appear without hands and bear no major consequences.

While a Carcere enables its wearer to bear the powers of a chain without placing exertion on the body, and thus allows them to use their chain to its limit instead of their own, it limits the chain's capabilities. 'Illegal contractors' and Baskervilles are able to use their chain at its full power, but must learn how to become resilient to its wearing effects.

With the power of Jabberwock, he is capable of generating powerful energy beams that will destroy anything in its path. The major drawback of such an ability is that it takes some time to charge. Additionally, the chain is able to pass judgement on anyone deemed to have committed a sin by opening up a path to the Abyss and summoning the the Chains of Condemnation to come forth, in addition to maintaining and preventing further damage to the chains (a different, more literal sort) that hold their physical world in-tact. The contract with his chain also prevents his body from aging physically.

Jabberwock may also be used to physically restrain another with its massive talons, or as a mode of transport by allowing anyone welcomed by its master to ride in its hands, or on its back.

Due to being born with the power of Glen inside his body, he is able to see the floating lights generated by the power of the Abyss. While no others are capable of seeing them, the reflections of the orbs can be seen reflected in his dark eyes. As he always carries the souls of the previous Glens with him, he can hear their voices any time - though he had how to block them out over time, if he so chooses. Finally, he is incapable of dying by traditional means, as the power within him allows his body to regenerate, as is true for any Baskerville.

Aside from supernatural abilities, Leo has a naturally superb talent at playing piano, being self-taught. It was said that whenever he played, all of the children in the orphanage would fall silent and close their eyes. Due to his love of literature and all his efforts devoted to it, he has also a formidable amount of knowledge regarding various matters. One could also say that he's quite good at reading situations and judging how to properly react to them, which in turn gives him excellent problem-solving capabilities.

Unfortunately for most, he is also surprisingly strong for his size, and has a pretty decent arm when it comes to dealing throws.

Nerfs: While the Abyss likely does not exist in connection to the the realm of Lagunbiru, and thus would be inaccessible to the Glens as such, its power may still be present and visible to him. The vessel of Glen is saturated with said power, as are the chains and past souls that reside within it, so the lights would exist around him. They should simply be far, far fewer in number.

As for the past souls that are tied to Leo, they are essentially a part of him, and I would request that they remain connected! Of course, should one of the playable predecessors ever decide to app in, those particular characters could no longer be linked to him. Instead, perhaps the souls could revert to the eldest of the Glens, or drift between at will; I would encourage any interested players to voice their preferences!

Jabberwock will lose his abilities tied to the abyss; however, at mod suggestion, his world protective abilities will translate to "emotional damage control". Such will give his chain the potential to block or lessen the destructive effects of negative emotions.

Alignment: Daimonia. Grief has consumed Leo, following the death of the most important person in his life. He had been unable to cope with the reality of what had come to pass, seemingly at fault by his own existence. Once revealed as Glen Baskerville, his one driving force has been to salvage Elliot's fate by removing himself from history. Even then, he has become reckless and unpredictable, uncaring if harm befell him. In mourning, he has reshaped his entire perspective.
